The Acolytes
Purpose: Work as crucifers, flag-bearers, and servers in the worship
service; appointed by the Rector, after boys have been confirmed.
The Altar Guild
Purpose:
Adorn and make ready God’s Altar, that we may learn greater love and reverence for
all that belongs to God’s service, and, through all outward symbols, come to clearer
vision of the spiritual realities taught by them.
Greeting and New Member Ministry
Purpose:
Meet the needs and concerns of all visitors that God brings into our midst. To welcome
visitors on Sunday morning and minister to them through follow-up, until the visitor
has become a participating member of our congregation.
Lay Readers
Purpose: Read lessons,
lead congregation in Psalms and prayers in the various worship services of the Church;
appointed by the Rector.
Sunday School
Purpose: Almighty God, our heavenly Father,
adopted us as his children through the death and resurrection of his son, Jesus Christ,
our Lord and Savior. God has committed to his holy Church, especially St. John’s
Anglican Church Sunday School, the care and nurture of his children through the study
of his Holy Word, that we may rejoice in the knowledge of his truth and worship and
serve him from generation to generation.
Ushers
Purpose: Their motto being “I serve
the Lord Jesus Christ,” an usher is a doorkeeper in the house of the Lord. Serving
with reverence, the usher greets and seats the worshipers, counts the number of worshipers
present, collects the offering from the worshipers and presents it to the priest.
Women of St. John’s
Purpose: Community of women committed to serving God and experiencing
His Grace through His Son, Our Savior, Jesus Christ. The purpose is to develop a
creative, supportive fellowship, expanding the mission of St. John’s through service
to our parish family and beyond as God leads us.
Psalter Psociety
Purpose: Commitment
to become more familiar with the Psalms as the Church's primary means of worship
and praise to God. The Book of Common Prayer provides a monthly morning and evening
schedule that will take you through the entire Psalms every thirty days. An online
discussion group will be available for daily comment and discussion of the lections.
Commitment:
Three month increment to read the morning and evening psalms.
Camellia Society
Purpose:
To gain greater familiarity with the history and practice of the Church through the
reading of historical mysteries and other works of literature. Tea and literature
connoisseurs will meet once a month to discuss the literature, and the tea, of course.
